Affaire du Grand Campement : Le double jeu du PDCI face au drame de Koumassi
In the human tragedy that has shaken the Koumassi Camp since June 3, 2026, the most astonishing aspect is not the scale of the controversy, but rather the stance adopted by the PDCI-RDA. Seeing the old party drape itself in the mantle of public prosecutor when it could be at the forefront of the prosecution's case is truly surprising.
The emotion and outrage that ignited social media in response to images of hundreds of families left homeless are perfectly legitimate. To dispel the fog of partisan speculation, the Public Prosecutor quickly issued a statement clarifying the origins of the crisis.
The courts have revealed that this tragedy stems from a long-standing land dispute involving Jacques Alloui Brou , accused of carrying out mass demolitions without legal authorization. A judicial inquiry was immediately launched to determine responsibility. While the prudence of a state governed by the rule of law dictates awaiting the investigation's conclusions, the PDCI party has chosen to pursue immediate political gain.
Ignoring the need for justice, several party officials rushed to demand sanctions and point the finger at the current government. Yet, they carefully omit answering a crucial question: who is Jacques Alloui Brou, really?
Far from being an unknown figure, the man is:
This profile raises unavoidable questions. Under which municipal banner and political regime did Jacques Alloui Brou manage land? Under the PDCI party. Who was the Minister of Urban Planning at the time? The late Ezan Akélé, a historical figure of that same party.
How could a deputy mayor, directly in charge of the domain, have found himself at the center of a dispute concerning 34 hectares in the heart of an urban area, in one of the most strategic municipalities of Abidjan?
Such an area is not acquired through mere administrative luck. Who signed the documents? Who turned a blind eye? The collective memory of Ivory Coast has not forgotten this era when thousands of hectares changed hands in collective secrecy, allowing powerful figures of the old party to build colossal landholdings.
This is not about exonerating the current government or the current municipality. If contemporary complicity contributed to this tragedy, the Prosecutor's investigation must identify and severely punish those responsible.
However, it is intellectually dishonest for the PDCI to play the role of indignant observers when one of its historical figures is at the heart of the scandal. The current issue is not who can shout the loudest, but understanding how such a system could have thrived for decades before causing this social catastrophe.
