Amadou Coulibaly : “Tous ceux qui ont enfreint les lois du pays subiront la rigueur de la loi”
The Minister of Communication and spokesperson for the government of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Amadou Coulibaly , spoke on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 , following the Council of Ministers meeting , regarding the appeal launched by the Party of African Peoples-Côte d'Ivoire (PPA-CI) demanding the release of its executives as well as all those arrested following recent events.
When questioned on the matter, the minister pointed out that the people concerned fall under the jurisdiction of the justice system and not the government .
“All these people are in the hands of the justice system. We are operating within the framework of the separation of powers. Therefore, we do not see how the government could interfere in ongoing judicial proceedings,” he said.
Amadou Coulibaly clarified that some individuals have already been tried and convicted , while other cases are still under investigation. According to him, the judicial process is proceeding as planned .
Speaking about the calls for dialogue launched by the PPA-CI, the minister stated that these steps should have been initiated before the incidents that led to the arrests. He also stressed the need to respect the laws and institutions of the Republic .
The government spokesperson also reminded everyone that the Head of State has the right of pardon , but that this prerogative does not replace ongoing judicial proceedings .
Regarding the toll of the recent unrest, Amadou Coulibaly indicated that nearly ten deaths had been recorded, calling for respect for human life and individual responsibility.
"We cannot continue to cause deaths and then come asking for forgiveness afterwards. At some point, everyone must take responsibility," he concluded.
