The town of Biankouma, located in western Ivory Coast, was the scene of violent clashes and vandalism throughout the weekend. The source of this anger: a tragic accident at a checkpoint on the night of Friday, June 12th to Saturday, June 13th, which claimed the life of a young motorcyclist.

The checkpoint tragedy: one dead and one seriously injured

The incident occurred on the Dingouin-Foundépleu road. According to several witness accounts, two young men on a motorcycle refused to stop at a checkpoint. To halt their advance, an obstacle was allegedly thrown onto the road, causing a violent crash.

The two victims were urgently evacuated to the Dingouin health center and are in serious condition:

1. A death was recorded shortly after admission to the hospital.
2. One critically injured person , whose condition was causing serious concern.

A city under tension: riots and barricades

The announcement of the tragedy immediately ignited the powder keg. From Friday night onwards, anger gripped the neighborhoods of Biankouma, leading to spontaneous gatherings and clashes.

1. Disruptions: Barricades have been erected on several roads, paralyzing traffic.
2. Targets: Groups of angry protesters attempted to converge on the city's police station to demand accountability.
3. Material damage: During the nighttime clashes, several businesses were vandalized, looted or set on fire.

Although law enforcement—supported by reinforcements from Man—intervened to restore order, the situation remained precarious. After a relatively calm but cautious Sunday morning, new incidents broke out in the afternoon, necessitating a further security intervention.

Faced with this insurrectionary climate, the population and local notables are demanding strong responses to calm tempers.
