Côte d’Ivoire : le prix de la volaille en hausse de 18 % à partir du 2 janvier 2026

Ivorian households will soon have to revise their food budgets. As of January 2, 2026 , the price of poultry will increase by 18% , a direct consequence of the effective application of value-added tax (VAT) on this staple food.

The announcement was made by the Association of Poultry Industry Professionals (INTERAVI) , which officially informed industry stakeholders of the entry into force of this tax measure provided for in the 2026 management annex. Despite the steps taken by the interprofessional organization to obtain its withdrawal, the provision was maintained by the authorities.

In a memo addressed to various breeders' organizations and retailers, INTERAVI specifies that this 18% VAT now applies to the entire sector. All stakeholders are therefore required to comply with it as soon as it is implemented, under penalty of being in breach of current regulations.

The association makes no secret of its concerns. It believes this measure will have a direct inflationary effect , likely to increase production costs and significantly impact consumer prices. This situation could further weaken a sector already facing numerous economic challenges.

While acknowledging the authorities' decision, INTERAVI warns of the risks this increase poses to the stability of the national poultry sector. It calls on the leaders of professional organizations to raise awareness among their members to avoid any confusion and limit tensions within the sector.

Faced with this new situation, INTERAVI reaffirms its solidarity with poultry farmers, processors, and traders, and declares its readiness to undertake concerted actions with its partners with the relevant authorities. The stated objective remains the search for sustainable solutions, in a spirit of dialogue, to safeguard the future of the poultry sector in Côte d'Ivoire.
