CAF Awards : Le Maroc perd l’organisation de l’édition 2026
After four consecutive editions held in Morocco, the CAF Awards are expected to change venues in 2026. According to several Nigerian media outlets, including "The Guardian Nigeria", the prestigious annual African football ceremony is expected to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.
The West African nation would also host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football at the end of the year. This decision would end Morocco's streak of hosting the continental awards, as the Kingdom of Morocco had hosted the last four editions.
This announcement comes after a meeting between Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya. Several influential figures in Nigerian football were also present, including Amaju Pinnick and Samson Adamu.
Nigeria is no stranger to hosting the CAF Awards. It previously hosted the event in 2009 and 2015.
This change of host, however, fuels speculation about a possible cooling of relations between Rabat and CAF in recent months.
